IMC for Open RAN
Integrating interference cancellation into O-RAN RU or DU equipment
Open RAN and IMC
Open RAN represents a significant evolution of the radio access network towards greater multi-vendor interoperability, flexibility, and innovation. The Open RAN (O-RAN) architecture allows value-added functionality - such as Interference Management and Cancellation (IMC) from ISCO - to be embedded into the O-RAN radio unit (O-RU) or the distributed unit (O-DU).
At the heart of ISCO IMC are our interference cancellation algorithms. These algorithms are available as:
- Software for implementation in the O-DU
- Code for implementation on FPGA or custom silicon in the O-RU
Note that ISCO IMC only needs to be implemented in the O-RU or O-DU, not both.

Implementing ISCO IMC on the O-RU or O-DU

Demonstration of ISCO IMC implemented on O-RU, cancelling RF interference from a jammer.

IMC algorithms are implemented on the uplink (receive) path. The algorithms can be ported to different software/hardware platforms, and ISCO can support IMC integration with platform-specific co-development and licensing.
As AI RAN evolves, it is expected that control and optimization of IMC functions can be further integrated and automated.
